Kenal eKYC Now Verifying New-Generation MyKad in Production

Platform support for Malaysia’s new-generation MyKad will be generally available to all Kenal eKYC customers from 30 September 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 September 2026 — Unbraided AI today announced that its Kenal eKYC platform is now verifying Malaysia’s new-generation MyKad in production, supporting continuity of digital identity verification as the country transitions to the redesigned national identity card.

The new-generation MyKad began phased issuance on 17 September 2026 as part of Malaysia’s ongoing modernisation of its national identity infrastructure. Existing MyKads remain valid throughout the transition.

As eKYC providers across the industry update their systems to recognise the design and features of the new card, Kenal eKYC now supports both the existing and new-generation MyKad formats.

Since 25 September 2026, Kenal eKYC has verified new-generation MyKads in production for selected customers. Support will be generally available to all Kenal eKYC customers from 30 September 2026.

“National identity infrastructure sits at the foundation of an increasingly digital economy. When that infrastructure evolves, the systems built around it must be ready to evolve with it,” said Jonah Lau, CEO of Unbraided AI.

“Our responsibility is to make that transition as seamless as possible for the organisations that depend on Kenal. Customers should not have to think about which generation of MyKad a person is carrying. Identity verification should simply continue to work.”

Kenal eKYC is designed around Malaysian identity verification requirements and provides capabilities including MyKad document recognition, data extraction, document validation and biometric face matching.

The platform supports organisations that need to establish customer identity digitally across onboarding, compliance and other identity-dependent business processes.

The introduction of the new MyKad also reflects a broader reality for digital services: identity infrastructure is not static.

“As more essential services move online, identity verification becomes part of critical digital infrastructure rather than simply another step in an application form,” Lau said.

“That means verification platforms need to be built with the expectation that identity documents, fraud techniques, regulatory requirements and the technologies around them will continue to change. Our role is to ensure our customers can keep moving when they do.”
